Organic Chlorella: The green algae acts like a magnet for internal toxins, as it attracts and filters out harmful pathogens. These effects keep the body cleansed and the immune system active.
Spirulina: Spirulina is 65% protein and packed with GLA (essential fatty acids with anti-inflammatory properties). This nutrient-dense herb helps support cardiovascular health.
Beetroot: Rich in powerful nutrients that stimulate blood flow and stamina, beets help purify the blood to allow the body to rid itself of harmful toxins.
Red Clover: Rich in isoflavones that help purify the blood and cleanse the body, for a total cleansing sensation.
Dandelion Root: In use for thousands of years in traditional medicine, dandelion root is rich in vitamins and minerals that support the liver and help protect the body from toxins brought on by stress.
Milk Thistle: Can restore cells that have been damaged by the environment, stress and alcohol, while boosting antioxidant levels.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA): A renowned antioxidant that keeps cells functioning properly and protected from oxidative stress.
Zinc: This metal gives the immune system a boost, playing a vital role in detoxification while contributing to health benefits for the brain and the heart.
Selenium: Best known for it’s antioxidant properties, selenium can help prevent cell damage, help with skin elasticity and detoxify the body from harmful metals.
Copper: This key mineral can help balance cholesterol, stimulate energy and benefit collagen production for youthful and vibrant skin.
Manganese: A mineral and essential nutrient, manganese helps build strong bones and aids in the production of collagen for healthy, cleansed skin.
Matcha Green Tea: Matcha has 3 times more EGCG (healthy antioxidants) than regular green tea, making it superior in neutralizing free radicals that lead to aging and wrinkles.

Chlorella, a blue-green algae, binds to heavy metals that can damage the skin and helps to remove them from the body.
Organic Chlorella Algae: The Telegraph reports that chlorella is an underutilized healthy superfood. Chlorella contains 9 essential amino acids, as well as vitamins, minerals, and is packed with protein. Further, a professor at Virginia Commonwealth University has done research confirming chlorella’s ability to help boost immune systems. Sources: Lambert, Victoria. “Chlorella: the superfood that helps fight disease.” The Telegraph. Bladderwrack: Antioxidant effects, laxative effects, and the ability to improve skin elasticity have all been associated with bladderwrack in an Overview of Research sponsored by Gaia Herbs. The overview emphasized bladderwrack’s applications in thyroid health and function and lipid metabolism specifically. Sources: Bove, N.D. Mary. “Bladderwrack: An overview of research.” Gaia Herbs. Red Clover Extract: Red clover is rich in isoflavones, chemicals found in plants that have similar properties to estrogen. Studies have thus shown that red clover is supportive for menopausal women. Red clover has also been used in traditional medicine to purify the blood and cleanse the body. Alpha Lipoic Acid: Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a compound in the body that protects the body from oxidative stress and keeps the body cells functioning properly. Studies have shown ALA to be a vital antioxidant that protects the body’s cells and aids in energy production. Source: Odabasoglu F, et al. Lipoic acid has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties: an experimental study in rats with carrageenan-induced acute and cotton pellet-induced chronic inflammations.” Br J Nutr. 2011 Jan;105(1). NCBI. NLM. NIH. Milk Thistle: Research has looked into silymarin, a key extract of milk thistle, as a potent antioxidant. Antioxidants are compounds that block the action of activated oxygen molecules called free radicals, which can damage cells.
Beauty starts from within- that is the driving force behind HUM and all of their products. This is why they take the science behind their products so seriously. Their first priority when developing a new formula is to look at the research that exists on how nutrients affect our bodies and how the ingredients we use can impact the wealth of beauty and health issues we aim to address.
During Hum’s R&D process, they collaborate with Registered Dietitians— the best Nutritionists in the field who have gone through intensive certification processes and many years of experience — as well as researchers at top universities. Together, they identify the micro-nutrients your body needs and the natural ingredients that can provide them.
With the support of clinical studies, double-blind trials and experiential research, the ingredients in their formulas are rigorously selected. To ensure the greatest personal benefit with the least environmental impact, all of their ingredients are sustainably sourced, gluten-free, and GMO-free (meaning they avoid ingredients that have been genetically modified and artificially manipulated.) As often as possible, they make their vitamins vegetarian and vegan friendly, and in cases where there is a lack of a plant based alternative, they work actively with their suppliers on developing one.
The idea of HUM was born out of Walter’s (co-owner of Hum Nutrition) personal struggle with his skin and breakouts. Years of trying topical products and prescription drugs had literally left him scarred emotionally and physically. Many of the drugs prescribed worked only on a temporary basis and the breakouts returned year after year. Walter always felt that there was a link between nutrition and his skin but research in the area was hard to come by, with the majority of dermatologists not trained in the field of nutrition. It was only after he met with one of London’s most forward thinking nutritionists that he was able to fix his skin once and for all. Their journey has taken them from London to Northern California, where they met up with leaders in the field of nutrition to further discuss the idea of Hum and the rest is history!
